Eighteen Bethel College alumni and friends toured China Oct. 29-Nov. 16 on a trip sponsored by the Bethel College Alumni Association.
The itinerary included Beijing and surroundings (the Temple of Heaven, Great Wall, Ming Tombs, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, 2008 Olympic venue); Xian (the Museum of the Terra Cotta Warriors, ancient city walls, Wild Goose Pagoda); Kunming; Zhongdian (area known as Shangri-la, full of Tibetan culture including Songsanglin Monastery, Shudo Lake and a Tibetan home); Lijiang (via Tiger Leaping Gorge, first bend of Yangtze River, Stone Drum Village, Dayan Ancient Town); Yu Long Snow Mountain; Chongqing (2000-year-old city and former capitol of Kuo Min Tang Government); Yangtze River cruise and Three Rivers Dam (submerged ghost city, Ming Shan Hill Temples, Qu Tang Gorge, Wu Gorge with its Lofty Twelve Peaks, Badong, Gezhou Dam Ship-lock); Wuhan (Hubei Museum); Shanghai (YuYuan Gardens, Children’s Palace, New Shanghai Museum); Zhu Jia Jiao and Suzhou “Venice of the East” (Fisherman’s Garden and Silk Embroidery Research Institute).
